in Turlock, Calif., for their annual Angus Female Sale, featuring
more than 30 top show heifer prospects plus pairs.
All sale cattle are
automatically entered in the Calif. Angus Days Calcutta Show on
Sunday, Dec.4, where more than $2,500 will be awarded to the
champion and reserve champion females!

SIGNATURE SHOWCASE FUNDRAISER
The 2005 Signature Showcase
Fundraiser was held following the Signature Collection Sale in June at
Five Star Land & Livestock, Wilton. Organizers Cheryl LaFranchi-Mongini
and Abbie Nelson put together a great live auction event in which $8,125
was raised to benefit the CJAA.

California Junior Angus Association Advisor. Kris has spent countless
volunteer hours working with CJAA members to keep the association going.

WINNERS OF THE CJAA
RAFFLE HELD AT THE SIGNATURE SHOWCASE WERE… Dr. Randy Perry of Prather,
winner of the grand prize, a Sullivans Air Express III blower purchased
from Evans Feed & Livestock Supply in Madera and donated by the
California Angus Association.
Carter Pierce of Selma
won the second prize, a $50 California Beef Council Certificate for the
purchasing beef at participating stores and restaurants donated by
Toledo Ranches of Visalia. Thank you to all who purchased tickets for
this CJAA fundraiser!
WEDDING BELLS for Ty Byrd
and Regina Bass. They
tied the knot on Friday, July 8, in Regina’s hometown
of Ferndale. The couple reside near Red Bluff, where
Ty is a partner in Byrd Cattle Company, LLC, and Regina is a grower
accounting assistant/special projects coordinator for Crain Walnut
Shelling, Inc.
2005 NATIONAL JUNIOR
ANGUS SHOWMANSHIP JUDGES included California’s own Rick Blanchard of
Firebaugh. Rick, a former NJAS showmanship contestant himself in the
early ‘80s,was part of a three-person panel selecting the nation’s top
showmen at the 2005 National Junior Angus Show in Denver, Colo.

California adults
took home top honors in the adult fresh meat division at the 2005
All-American Certified Angus Beef® (CAB) Cook-off, July 19 during
the National Junior Angus Show in Denver, Colo. Team members
included Mindy and Brad Schnoor, Chowchilla; Cori Meyers, Madera;
and Susan and Randy Perry, Prather They prepared "Get 'er Done
Steaks," and also claimed first place in the recipe and showmanship
categories. The American Angus Auxiliary sponsored the event.

2 1/2 tsp. prepared mustard
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper, coarsely ground
1 beef flavor bouillon cube or envelope
watercress for garnish
Season steaks with
seasoning used, patting in the seasoning. Grill one side 3
minutes, then flip to other side and grill approximately 3
minutes. During that time, mix in skillet dry cooking wine, green
onions, water, heavy cream, butter and capers. Sauté for 6-7
minutes. Remove steaks from grill, place in skillet and sauté 2
minutes per side. Then place back on grill 2 minutes per side.
While on grill baste with remaining sauté sauce.
