The California Angus Association and the California Junior Angus Association invite you to participate in the 2008 State Field Day being held at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock, California, May 24th and 25th. The following is information that should help to produce another wonderful show. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Bedding
: Bedding will not be provided. Exhibitors are responsible for cleaning out stalls before leaving fairgrounds.

Classes: All classes will follow the American Angus Association rules. After steers are weighed classes will be broken into three divisions – Angus Steers, Black X Steers, and All Other Color Steers.

Show Categories: Bred and Owned Bulls, Bred and Owned Heifers, Owned Heifers, Cow/Calf (heifers may be exhibited in either Owned or Bred and Owned, not both). Champions will be selected in each category. Entries will be listed in order of age (youngest to oldest) and will be shown in the same order. All animals must be registered in the sole name of the exhibitor. Exhibitors must have the original registration certificate on each animal for inspection at the show. Any animal, upon check-in, which does not have a legible tattoo corresponding to its registration certificate is ineligible to show. Any female shown with calf at side, the calf must be the cow’s most recent natural calf and the calf must be registered by the show date and have the original registration certificate at check in. Exhibitors must show their own animals, unless they have more than one animal in the same class. Juniors competing in this event must be at least 9 years of age and not yet 21 years of age as of January 1, 2008.

All breeding animals must be registered and tattooed prior to entering the grounds.

Entries must be postmarked by May 10th: Entry fees are $20 for breeding animals and $35 for steers. There will be a late fee of $15.00 per entry if not postmarked on or before May 10th. Original registration papers must be checked in prior to 10:00am on Saturday, May 24, 2008. No duplicate or photocopied registration papers will be accepted.

Saturday Evening Potluck BBQ: Please plan on attending our Potluck BBQ. Everyone is invited to attend. It is a great way to get to know everyone involved in the CJAA. There will be games, prizes and great food. If you are interested in bringing an appetizer, salad, or dessert please contact Casey at (530) 514-2562.

Queen Contest: Divisions are: Queen – age 16-21, Princess – age 13-15, Jr. Princess – age 9-12. Each division will participate in a showmanship contest. The Queen candidates will take a general knowledge quiz. Anyone interested in competing in the California Jr. Angus Queen or Princess Contest should contact Amanda Leo at (209) 723-5113 or email amandasoup@aol.com for an application.

LEAD Scholarship: Are you interested in becoming a leader? Do you love surrounding yourself with other juniors from around the country? Then Leaders Engaged in Angus Development is calling you! The Schnoor family has generously offered scholarships once again to attend LEAD 2008.

       SHOWMANSHIP REQUIREMENTS

 
 • Member of the American Angus Association with a member code.
 • Member of the California Junior Angus Association.
 • Must be at least nine (9) years old but not yet twenty-one (21) years
      old as of January 1, 2008.
 • Member must own Angus Cattle.
 • Member must have actively shown or participated as an Angus
      Breeder/Exhibitor in the past twelve months.
  The California Angus Association has approved the above requirements as guidelines in selecting two young people as representatives of California for the National Show in Des Moines, Iowa. The funding and financial support provided by the California Angus Association is greatly appreciated.

2007 CJAA PREVIEW SHOW CHAMPIONS

   The California Junior Angus
Association (CJAA) hosted its annual Preview Show in May at the Stanislaus Co. Fairgrounds, Turlock. In addition to the Angus Days Jackpot and Preview Shows, the new officer team was elected, royalty was crowned, and scholarships were awarded.
   A special thank you goes out to
CJAA advisors Amanda Leo and Casey Cooley, along with Matt Leo and Kris Gudel, for putting on such a great event.
   Gary Sumptner, Madera, evaluated the jackpot cattle and Darrell Hansen, Lodi, served as the judge of the bred-and-owned  and owned cattle. A total of 52 head were exhibited by members of the California Junior Angus Association.
   Grand champion owned female honors went to Kirbe Schnoor, Chowchilla. The reserve champion owned female was exhibited by Sierra Meyers, Madera.
   In the bred-and-owned show Garrett Blanchard, Firebaugh, exhibited the grand champion heifer. Emily Piland, Rescue, lead out the reserve champion bred-  and-owned female.
   The grand champion bred-and-
owned bull was exhibited by Blanchard. Austin Perry, Prather, took reserve champion bull honors.
   The grand champion cow-calf pair was also exhibited by Piland. Manual Casillas, Penn Valley, took the reserve cow-calf pair title.
   Additional members with heifers or bulls in the championship lineup for their respective shows were: Casey Clark, Denair; Austin  Perry, Prather; Scott Avila,  Merced; Natalie Reis, Gridley; Austin Day, Denair;  Samantha Longoria,  Terra Bella; and Dawson Gatz, Brentwood.
   In the California Angus Days
Jackpot Show, Wyatt Colburn, Visalia, exhibited the grand champion. Trisha Walker, Salinas, took the reserve champion jackpot title.
   The showmanship winners by
division were Jessica Judge, junior; Sierra Meyers, intermediate; and Trisha Walker, senior.

   Kirbe Schnoor and Trisha Walker were selected to represent Californiain the National Junior  Angus Showmanship Contest in Tulsa, Okla.
   Voting delegates from California at the National Junior Angus Show will be Kirbe Schnoor and Austin Perry.
   The 2007-2008 CJAA officers were selected with Sierra Meyers elected president. The rest of the officer team is Garrett Blanchard, vice president;  Ashley Judge, secretary; Macy Perry, treasurer;  Austin Perry, reporter; and Jessica Judge and Mikenzi Meyers, historians.
   The 2007 Jean Fearrien Scholarship was awarded to Kirbe Schnoor. The California Angus Association scholarship recipient is Trisha Walker.
   The 2007 LEAD Conference will be held in Athens, Ga., this month. CJAA members attending on scholarships awarded by the  California Junior Angus Association and the California
Angus Association are Emmalee
Casllias, Manual Casillas, Sierra Meyers and Austin Perry. Additionally, Kirbe Schnoor, Cassie Silveira and Denni Silveira will be attending the event.
