CALIFORNIA JUNIOR ANGUS MEMBERS
COMPETE IN IOWA |

Members of the
California Junior Angus Association (CJAA) members made a
great showing at the 2008 National Junior Angus Show in Des
Moines, Iowa. Members and their parents joined together to
celebrate “Christmas in July.”
Those members attending the event, pictured during the
opening ceremonies (L to R) are: Garrett Blanchard,
Firebaugh; Macy Perry, Prather; Austin Perry, Prather;
Sierra Meyers, Madera; Colby Perry, Prather; and Kirbe
Schnoor, Chowchilla.
Additional members not pictured that exhibited cattle,
included: Sydney Schnoor, Chowchilla; Savannah Levisay,
Creston; Calvin Levisay, Creston; and Madeline Wisecarver,
Hanford.
Juniors from throughout the nation exhibited 1,141 head
during the week, which included 669 owned females, 235
bredand- owned females, 72bred-and-owned bulls, 14
bred-and-owned cow-calf pairs, 31 owned cow-calf pairs, 73
steers and 47 carcass steers. Mark Duffell, Aldie, Va.,
judged the bred-and-owned animals and the owned cow-calf
pairs. Chris Sankey, Council Grove, Kan., judged the owned
females.
In the owned heifer show, Sydney Schnoor exhibited the Late
Intermediate Champion, Exar Princess 7326, sired by BC 7022
Raven 7965. The Reserve Junior Champion inDivision 2 was
Gambles Shadoe 3117, sired by Gambles Hot Rod and exhibited
by Kirbe Schnoor. Kirbe Schnoor also exhibited the Reserve
Junior Champion in Division 4 – HFG Wendy 729, sired by
Baldridge Kaboom K243 KCF. Savannah Levisay led Silveiras
Elba 6546 by Gambles Hot Rod, to the Reserve Senior Champion
division title.

In the
bred-and-owned female show, Garrett Blanchard exhibited the
Reserve Late Senior Calf Champion, Silveiras Elba 7545,
sired by B C Marathon 7022, as well as the Senior Champion
Female, Silveiras Elba 6540, sired by Gambles Hot Rod.
Garrett Blanchard and Austin Perry represented California at
the 2008 National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest, held in
conjunction with the National Junior Angus Show. Both
showmen advanced to the final round of 15 competitors.
Forty-six youth fromacross the country competed for
top honors in the 42nd annual event.
Kirbe Schnoor, Chowchilla, was elected to serve on the
National Junior Angus Association Board of Directors. This
year, candidates from 14 states ran for the six open
positions.
California’s Angus Queen, Sierra Meyers, represented the
California Angus Association during the event. Members also
participated in a number of event contests. Macy Perry and
Sierra Meyers participated in the extemporaneous speaking
contest. Macy Perryentered photos in the annual photo
contest. Austin Perry, Macy Perry and Sierra Meyers competed
in the team sales competition. Kirbe Schnoor, Sierra Meyers,
Austin Perry and Macy Perry come together to compete in the
team fitting contest. |

2008 SPRING JACKPOT RESULTS

California Junior Angus Association (CJAA) members made it
to the winner’s circle at a number of jackpot heifer shows
during the 2008 spring show season.
At the 19th Annual Sierra Winter Classic Steer and Heifer
Show in Porterville, Madeline Wisecarver of Hanford
exhibited the grand champion Angus heifer and reserve
supreme champion heifer, Silveiras Elba 6573 (pictured
below).
Savannah Levisay of Creston exhibited the grand champion
Angus female and took reserve supreme champion honors over
all breeds at the 15th Annual Red Wave Classic, hosted by
California State University, Fresno. Silveiras Elba 6546,
sired by Gambles Hot Rod, was the winning entry.
Amy Dierberger of Madera exhibited the reserve grand
champion Angus heifer at the Red Wave Classic, Silveiras
Elba 7314.
In the heifer showmanship classes, Jessica Judge of San Luis
Obispo took top honors in the junior division, while Ashley
Judge, also of San Luis Obispo, was second in the
intermediate division. Tricia Walker of Salinas took second
place in the senior division.
At Cal Poly’s 24th Western Bonanza Junior Livestock Show in
Paso Robles, Savannah Levisay captured grand champion female
honors in both rings with Silveiras Elba 6546 (pictured at
the bottom of the page). The heifer went on to be named the
supreme champion female over all breeds.
The reserve grand champion Angus heifer in Ring A was
Silveiras Elba 6573, exhibited by Madeline Wisecarver. The
reserve grand champion heifer in Ring B was Silveiras Elba
7314, exhibited by Amy Dierberger.
Ashley Judge took the grand champion bred-and-owned female
title with Bar R Tri Star Erica 7108. The heifer went on to
be named the reserve grand champion bred-and-owned female
over all breeds.
LXS Princess Chloe 702 was named the grand champion
bred-and-owned Angus female for Alexis Leage of San Luis
Obispo.
In beef showmanship at the Western Bonanza, Layne Simon of
Catheys Valley took first place the first day of
competition. During the second day of competition, Austin
Perry of Prather took first place. |

Members
of the California Junior Angus Association (CJAA)
exhibited a total of 91 head at the California Angus
Calcutta and Jackpot Shows on December 2. Dave
Dillabo of Tulelake evaluated the cattle in both
shows.
In the calcutta show, 21 heifers that sold the
previous day in the California Angus Days Female
sale competed in the show. S Sis Party Girl 650,
bred by Amanda Schnoor of Chowchilla, took grand
champion honors for Brenden Benson of Winters.
Dawson Gatz of Brentwood exhibited the reserve grand
champion with HAVE Princess 5024 H217, bred by HAVE
Angus of Wilton.
In the California Junior Livestock Association (CJLA)
Jackpot Show, the late junior heifer champion was
Bar S Cassies Lilly 706, exhibited by Brenden Benson
and bred by Cassie Silveira of Sanger.
The reserve late junior heifer champion was Bar R
Tri Star Erica 7108 bred-andowned by Ashley Judge of
San Luis Obispo.
The early junior heifer champion was V A R Black
Lass 7138 owned by Sydney Schnoor of Chowchilla and
bred by Vintage Angus Ranch, Modesto.
The reserve early junior heifer champion was
Silveiras Elba 7314 exhibited by Amy Dierberger of
Madera and bred by Garrett Blanchard of Firebaugh.
Silveiras Elba 6546 was the senior heifer champion
for Savannah Levisay of Creston. The heifer, bred by
Garrett Blanchard, went on to be named the grand
champion female. She is sired by Gambles Hot Rod out
of a Twin Valley Precision E161 daughter.
The reserve senior champion heifer was exhibited by
Austin Perry of Prather. EXAR Blackbird 6957 was
bred by Express Angus Ranches of Yukon, Okla.
The intermediate champion heifer, Bear Mtn Heiress
6188, was exhibited by Jessica Judge of San Luis
Obispo. Bear Mountain Angus of Melba, Idaho, bred
the heifer.
The reserve intermediate champion heifer was GMA
Scotts Black Beauty 253 exhibited by Scott Avila,
Merced, and bred by GMA Angus Ranch of Merced.
Bruin 104 Dianna 6413 was the junior heifer champion
for Ashley Judge. She went on to be named the
reserve grand champion female. Bruin Ranch, Gold
River, is the breeder.
The reserve junior heifer champion was Amador
Blackbird 104 6525 for Tricia Walker of Salinas. The
heifer was bred by Amador Angus, Modesto.
The grand champion cow-calf pair was Amethyst Echo
B28, exhibited by Casey Clark of Denair, and bred by
Amethyst Angus Ranch of Plymouth.
The reserve grand champion cow-calf pair was Five
Star 765 Vixn Lass 5071, exhibited by Brooke Barnes
of Manton, and bred by Five Star Land and Livestock,
Wilton.
In showmanship, the winners by division were Brenden
Benson, senior; Austin Perry, intermediate; and
Jessica Judge, junior.

THE CALIFORNIA JUNIOR
ANGUS ASSOCIATION TAKES TULSA BY STORM
Despite flooding and stormy weather during the trip to Tulsa,
Okla., to take part in the 2007 National Junior Angus
Show, in July, California Junior Angus Association (CJAA)
members made a great showing. Members and their parents
joined together to put a patriotic display together as
the backdrop for the state display, which housed more
than 40 head of cattle from 10 members.
A record 1,241 entries were exhibited during The American
Dream-themed show, hosted by the Oklahoma and Arkansas
Junior Angus Associations.
Former CJAA member and National Junior Angus board member Amanda
Schnoor assisted with the show, contests and awards
presentation before retiring from the board at the
conclusion of the show.
Members attending the event, pictured at left during the opening

Brad McCurry, Mount Hope, Kan., judged the 17 bred-and-owned
cow-calf pairs, 40 owned cow-calf pairs, 100 bred-and-
owned bulls, and 280 bred-and-owned females. Joel
Cowley, Houston, Texas, made the final rankings on the
702 owned females. Dr. Randy Perry, Prather, evaluated
the 67 steers. In addition, 35 steers competed on the
rail in the annual carcass steer contest.
In the owned show, where California took first
place in the
best five head division (pictured below), Sydney Schnoor
exhibited Exar Blackbird 6902 (at left) to the Calf
Champion, Division 2, title. Kirbe Schnoor took two
division reserve titles.EXAR Lady 8946 was the Junior
Champion, Division 2; and Gambles Elbrea 1086 was
the Reserve Junior Champion, Division 5.
Garrett Blanchard exhibited the Reserve Late Intermediate Champion,
Silveiras Elba 6533. Ashley Judge, San Luis Obispo, took
the Junior Champion, Division 3, title with Bruin 104
Dianna 6413 (below left). In the bred-and-owned heifer
show, Blanchard led out the Reserve Calf Champion,
Silveiras Elba 6540. He also exhibited the Reserve
Intermediate Champion in the bred-and-owned bull show,
Silveiras Elation 6534.
Blanchard also took home the Boy’s Silver Pitcher Award (below
left), sponsored by the American Angus Auxiliary, for
the second time in three years. He earned the most
points for cattle exhibited at the show in the boy’s
division.
In addition to the division champions and reserve champions, Austin
Perry had a class winner in the owned show with Exar
Blackbird 6957, and Sydney Schnoor took first place in
class with Gambles Lucy 5016. Garrett Blanchard also
placed first in class in the bred-and-owned bull show
with Silveiras 6482 Design 6311.
Kirbe Schnoor and Trisha Walker competed in the National Junior
Angus Showmanship Contest with Kirbe making the finals.
The top 15 finalists competed the following day. Kirbe
took fourth place honors overall. (below far left).
Jessica Judge (above right), topped the 9- and 10-year-old age
group in the livestock judging contest and was
recognized during the annual awards function.
Manual Casillas entered JLT New Design 6006 in the carcass contest,
and placed in the top 10 out of 35 entries.
In the team fitting contest, CJAA members captured fourth place.
The team was made up of Ashely Judge, Austin Perry,
Trisha Walker and Kirbe Schnoor.
Alexis League, San Luis Obispo, received honorable mention for her
entry in the junior division of the photo contest for
“Fit for Heaven” in the Landscape category. Macy Perry
also received honorable mention in the contest for her
entry, “Best Friend,” in the People category.

BEST OWNED
GROUP OF FIVE
For the first time in more than two decades, the California Junior
Angus Association state group took top honors for the
Owned Best Five Head.
California Angus breeders Rick Blanchard and John Toledo were
excited about the win by the juniors. Looking back, they
recalled their part in the back-to-back wins of the
state group award for California in Milwaukee, Wis., in
1982, and Des Moines, Iowa, in 1983.
This group combined their owned division champion and reserve
champions to make for a powerful set of females.

included, as well as two reserve division heifers from
Kirbe Schnoor, and one reserve division heifer from
Garrett Blanchard. |

evaluated the 343 entries held during the 100th National Western Stock Show,
January 11-13, 2006.

Garrett Blanchard of
Firebaugh took Grand Champion Cow-Calf Pair honors with Silveiras Elba
2520 and her September 2004 bull calf at side. Blanchard also had another
class winner in the open show, Silveiras Elba 4503.

Junior Angus exhibitors
from coast-to-coast lead 1,053 entries at the 2005 National Junior Angus Show,
July 17-23 in Denver, Colo. The week-long event, hosted by numerous Western
states was themed "Way out West." Mike McGuire, Waverly, Ala., evaluated the
52 steers. Vance Uden, Franklin, Neb., judged the 66 cow-calf pairs, 75 bred-and-owned
bulls, and 235 bred-and-owned females. Randy Daniel, Colbert, Ga., judged
the 625 owned females.

Amanda
Schnoor, Chowchilla, left, and Ryan Thompson, Shafter, right, represented
California at the 2005 National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest in conjunction
with the 2005 National Junior Angus Show, July 22-23 in Denver, Colo. Schnoor
was one of 15 top finalists. More than 50 youth from across the country competed
for top honors in the 39th annual event.
Amanda Schnoor, daughter of
Brad and Mindy Schnoor, Chowchilla, was elected to serve a two-year term on
the National Junior Angus Association Board of Directors. She holds an associate's
degree in animal science from Modesto Junior College and she'll attend Oregon
State University this fall.

Garrett
Blanchard of Firebaugh was the boy's division premier exhibitor at the 2005
NJAS, earning him the American Angus Auxiliary's Boy's Division Silver Pitcher
Award. Garrett accumulated the most points in the show ring at NJAS to win
the boy's award.

California breeders
and junior members participated in the golf contest held prior to the 2004
Signature Showcase in Wilton on June 12, 2004. CAA Vice President Carter Pierce
chaired the event and CJAA Jr. Advisor Kris Gudel and CSUF's Justin Bush pitched
in to help. Darrell Silveira donated the top prize, a golf bag won by Mike
Silveira of Sanger. $150 in proceeds were donated to CJAA and the winners
are listed below.

of Atwater have been named the 2004 Bob and Pat Dean Memorial Scholarship
winners. They will both compete for American Angus Auxiliary scholarships
to be announced at the 2004 National Jr. Angus Show in Kansas City, Mo.
Ryan Nelson of Wilton is the recipient of the
2004 Jean Fearrien Scholarship.

CJAA Members Compete
in Western National Jr. Angus Futurity

CJAA members were very competitive at the
2004 Western National Jr. Angus Futurity in Reno, Nev. A total of 140 head
were shown with California capturing first place in the the State Group of
Five competition. Bobby Lax of Atwater was named the 2004 WNAF Outstanding
Jr. Herdsman. Joel Judge of San Luis Obispo evaluated the entries. |

Participates in 2003 National Jr. Angus Show
A group of California juniors headed for the 2003 National Jr. Show in Louisville,
Ky., in July. Justin Barrett, Ryan Nelson and Garrett Blanchard exhibited
cattle and participated in the opening ceremonies. Joseph Amaral flew to Louisville
and participated along with Justin Barrett in the National Showmanship Contest.
The group stopped at the American Angus Association headquarters on the way
to Kentucky. They stayed over at Sydenstricker Angus in Mexico, Mo., where
they got a tour of the ranch and cowherd.Abbie Nelson, Carole Silveira, Joe
Barrett, Jake Parnell, Bret Wood and Corey Reid, along with the juniors had
a great time. Abbie and Carole kept a diary of the trip, as well as documented
it on film.Rick and Allison Blanchard, Darrell Silveira and Andra Campbell
joined the group prior to the start of the show. The group exhibited 14 head.
Garrett Blanchard had the Late Intermediate Owned Champion and two second
place winners and Ryan Nelson had four class winners.
